Robert B. Henke, born in Munich in 1969, is a German computer-music artist working in audiovisual installation, music and performance. He co-founded the electronic project Monolake with Gerhard Behles in 1995 and the software company Ableton in 1999, helping to create Ableton Live, released in 2001 and now used in studios around the world.
His artistic work runs parallel to the software: laser-based performances such as Lumière and Destructive Observation Field, the installation Fragile Territories, and CBM 8032 AV, realised on vintage Commodore computers. Across all of it, his stated concern is the physical behaviour of sound and light, treated as material rather than effect.
